New SharePoint Developer Features in Visual Studio 2010 SP1

Overview

This download installs Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta. This service pack beta release addresses issues that were found through a combination of customer and partner feedback, as well as internal testing. These service packs offer Visual Studio users improvements in responsiveness, stability and performance. Feedback received during this beta release will be used to deliver a final release of the service pack.

As part of VS 2010 SP1 SharePoint developers can now take advantage of IntelliTrace as well as create unit tests that use SharePoint API’s.

With 64-bit support now enabled in IntelliTrace, you can use IntelliTrace in your SharePoint farm solutions. You can set a break-point in your code or break execution and then view the IntelliTrace data. You can also collect IntelliTrace data and save the .itrace log file for viewing at a later time.

For those SharePoint developers that create unit tests, you can now create and execute unit tests for your SharePoint 2010 solutions even if they use SharePoint API’s. In order to execute these unit tests you first need to deploy your SharePoint solution to your local developer machine. After that, you can execute the unit tests as you would normally.

Visual Studio Launch Rocks!!

On June 8th 2010, Microsoft Egypt announced the launch of Visual Studio 2010 through a big event host at Grand Hayat Hotel in Cairo.

Event started with keynote speech by Ayman Abdel-Latif - Microsoft Egypt General Manager who demonstrated how VS 2010 increases the developer's productivity and how it will help in cloud services development.

Then Sherif Abbas – DPE Lead went into details about Microsoft Cloud offerings for Microsoft different platforms.

After quick break sessions started with demonstrating Web and Cloud development tools in Visual Studio 2010 by Mohamed Wahbi – Visual Studio Marketing Manager and Mohamed Nar Architect Evangelist.

Mohamed Samy – Architect, he demonstrated in the second session the testing tools in Visual Studio 2010. Followed by him Cairo Microsoft Innovation Center (CMIC) team presented their AMAZING research projects around Language translations, Bing Search engine optimizations for Arabic region and Video processing projects.

Finally I was handed the mic. and presented Visual Studio 2010 powerful tools for SharePoint 2010 development through a series of demos about Visual web parts, Business Connectivity services, Silverlight development for SharePoint and Office development.

It was great day I enjoyed meeting a lot of developers and presenting the power of SharePoint 2010 development on the VS 2010
